About
The Vereysky Museum of Local Lore is not just a collection of exhibits, but a living space where the history of the ancient city breathes. Opened in 1996, it is located in the mansion of merchant Mityushin, an ancient house that seems to have descended from the pages of the past. The building is connected to the former county school of the XVIII century, a monument of federal significance, and stands on the high bank of the Protva River, surrounded by ancient shrines: the Christmas Cathedral of 1552, the chapel of Paraskeva Friday and the ancient settlement.
Walking through the seven halls of the museum, it's like taking a trip through the ages. In the historical and ethnographic hall, the life of old Verey houses comes to life: homespun clothes whisper about needlewomen of bygone eras, antique irons and coffee grinders remind of a leisurely way of life, and a chest of drawers with statuettes preserves the silence of bygone days. There are no dry display cases here — every object seems to be waiting to tell its story: damask and wine bottles remember merchant feasts, and ancient tools tell the story of the first settlers of these lands.
The hall dedicated to the Great Patriotic War sounds a special note. This is not a parade chronicle, but an intimate memory: letters, photographs, personal belongings — everything that connects us with the fates of those who defended this land.
But the museum is not frozen in the past. New meanings are constantly being born in the exhibition halls: an exhibition of paintings from seeds will open, an amazing creation by Zinaida and Galina Korenev, or the atmosphere of the old school at the exposition will come alive, where you can sit down at a desk a century ago. Master classes, creative evenings, and guided tours are held here, which lead guests not only through the halls, but also through the streets of Vereya, to its six temples, among which is the unique Old Believers Intercession Church with a two—century history.
The Vereysky Museum is a place where the past does not die, but continues to live in details, in the smells of old wood, in the whispers of old things. He reminds us that history is not the dates in a textbook, but the warmth of human hands that have left their mark on the centuries.
